Quentin Tarantino

Never thought I'd see the day when I would write a movie critique but, being that I'm dating Mr. Critique himself, I guess it was soon to come. This is definitely going down as amateur but, it's a critique nevertheless.

PROS
I like when directors use the same actors/actresses in their movies. It creates a sense of familiarity and for me, in my head, a sense of family. They jive together and I tend to see them as one big family when in reality I guess it should be called business partners. So that's one pro, seeing the same number of actors and actresses show their talents as different characters.
Another pro of Tarantino's is the filming is always tremendous. I'm sure there are plenty more examples than what I can remember from Django, Reservoir Dogs, and Pulp Fiction but, camera action is memorable and appreciated.
Last pro: the plot. I can say I've never been bored in a Tarantino movie. I like how in Reservoir Dogs it takes you back through the bank robbery to understand what is presently taking place. In Django Unchained, it's a journey for a slave to find his wife along the way picking up bounties on people and then unleashing his wrath on the slave trader who bought his wife. Lastly, in Pulp Fiction, I liked how the first scene starts where the movie ends. As a director, I do have to give him credit that his directing is spot on.

CONS
Profanity
My dad stated the other day, any movie would be just as good without profanity and after thinking about that statement I don't think I would exactly agree. Even with petty cursing we remember lines in movies such as Madea. We don't consider that to be profanity these days but, in some cases, it's still words we wouldn't say in front of our grandparents. Another example of memorable movies with profanity would be movies like The Hangover or Pitch perfect. It's profanity but, the movie wouldn't be the same without them in the lines. In Tarantino's movies, his profanity serves no purpose but to be profane. Reservoir Dogs was ridiculous. There was so much I wanted to quit watching. Django Unchained dealt with it more being set in a certain culture which I can understand and Pulp Fiction was similar to Reservoir Dogs serving no purpose but, to curse. In this case, I completely agree with my dad. These movies would have been more enjoyable with the lack of profanity. So one con down for me.
Murder
Now I understand shoot em' up bang bang movies but, I don't think you can put Tarantino movies in that category. I think he needs his own category. When you watch a Tarantino movie he makes murder seem as a light occasion. Nothing too big about it because nearly everyone in his movies die. He makes murder look comical and I think murder is far from it. Now, I'm sure it looks like I'm reading Wayyy too into his movies but, I sat and listened while people laughed in a theatre as people were shot and killed in Django Unchained. I'm sorry there's nothing funny about it but, Tarantino sure thinks there is. I felt sick wanted to chuckle while people were being shot. It's not right. Now, this might be considered the brilliance of Tarantino as a director and you could argue that for sure but for me, I think Tarantino finds pleasure and comedy in murder and it shows in his movies. I just don't find anything funny about a man dying. Maybe I have too much regard for humans.

Overall, the male population adores this man. Me, I give him respect in the fact that he is a good director. But as a fan, I'm not his biggest fan. Yes, I know there's more movies out there he has directed but for now, these are the only three I've seen and these are what I base my opinions off of. Thoughts?
