So I am on this movie binge trying to watch the Top 250 movies on IMDB. On that list was the above movie called, "Chinatown". I had never heard of it or knew any knowledge of it. But, after halfway through the movie it was apparent to me this movie was going to be blog-worthy.
Filmed in 1974, one of the most memorable moments of this movie was when Jack Nicholson says in front of a woman, "That stupid broad" and quickly right after he let those words be released from his lips, he apologized for saying such a thing in front of a woman. It struck me so, that it made me think of the men in our society. Had a man said, "that stupid broad" in front of a woman today, there would have been no apology. Furthermore, would the woman have been so appalled that she demanded one? Our society is such a contrast from this culture in the seventies. Every time Faye Dunaway stepped out of a vehicle, there was a man there to lend her a hand and help her out of the car. Every time she had to go up stairs, there was a man there to help assist her. Call me old fashioned but I think those are valuable manners that should still be in tacked. It showed their respect for women. Some would say, that's men considering women unable of doing things independently but, I don't see it that way. Now luckily, I live in the South and it's still something you may see out somewhere. Men holding doors open for women or opening car doors to allow them in. But, when it comes to conversation in front of a woman these days, there isn't a boundary, where there should be. What birthed that?
On the other hand, why do men not consider it disrespectful to talk vulgar in front of women? Somewhere down the line they saw it fit to talk as they pleased in front of women. Is it because women themselves have downgraded their appeal, their presence, and their poise? Seems like today, it is also more common to see women cursing out other women than you would have seen in the 70's. Such filthy words were Never to come out of a woman's mouth but, in present times some women find that in their everyday language. It was just interesting to me to see how far we have come in culture in America. Now, I can see how in the 70's, life was a tad bit slower and today it's as fast as can be so people don't primarily look to helping others as they did in the seventies. Nevertheless, it will never be attractive or appropriate to speak filthily in front of women. Seeing a man with a clean mouth just makes him more of a man in my eyes. By the way, I give this movie an 8 out of 10.
